    From a spacious duffle for a day trip to the functional business model – travel bags are the most popular pieces of softside luggage. They are classically characterized by a large main compartment and stretchy materials. Thanks to their soft shell, they can be stowed away without any problems and can even be squeezed a little when needed. Travel bags are usually equipped with at least one external compartment and two carrying handles. If this simple carrying system is not enough for you, you can use travel bags with wheels. They combine the practical aspects of a travel bag with all the comfort of a trolley and can be pulled easily over longer distances. The capacity of travel bags is between 30 and 120 litres depending on the model. Up to a volume of about 50 litres, they are suitable for one or two-day trips. Travel bags with a volume of up to 80 litres are ideal for a long weekend. Larger models are intended for trips lasting several weeks. The materials used are leather, nylon, cotton, polyester and tarpaulin. Therefore, travel bags have a relatively low weight. However, leather models can weigh more depending on size and hardware.     Variants for individual vacations

    The most popular models for individual travels include weekend bags, travel duffle bags and luggage with backpack straps. Textile travel bags with leather trimmings not only impress with an attractive design, but also with better durability. Sporty models convince with side pockets, daisy chains and optionally a shoe compartment. Every roomy duffle is usually equipped with two reinforced straps because that way it is more suitable for heavy loads. A (detachable) shoulder strap is also typical. There are newer models of travel duffle bags with a roll top closure for volume adjustment. Many travel bags are foldable and therefore particularly easy to stow. Thin, light and tear-resistant materials are typical for a foldable travel bag. Folded into a small rectangle, it can be kept in the storage bag that comes with it. Therefore, a foldable travel bag is a good additional option to regular luggage. It can provide up to 60 litres of volume. Travel bags with a stretch pleat are an alternative: they also provide additional storage space if necessary. Luggage with backpack straps is practical when travelling by train: thanks to stowable shoulder straps, it can be carried on the back when you need to move quickly, or the platform is full. It is furthermore much more comfortable when changing trains and getting off. Some models are even designed for outdoor use: they can be recognized by their padded, ventilated straps with position adjustment function and an ergonomic back system.

    Business travel bags

    Among the preferred models of business travel bags are leather and imitation leather weekend bags. They are not only robust enough for plane trips, but also can be taken into the cabin – so there's no need for check-in. The hand luggage requirements of individual airlines may vary: The standard dimensions are 55 x 40 x 23 cm (L x W x H). Business travel bags are therefore usually more compact than vacation models. In addition to leather models, weekend bags made of nylon or polyester are also available. All travel bags in business look have muted colours and a minimalistic layout. Many models are equipped with a trolley strap for attaching to larger luggage if the business trip lasts many days. High quality travel bags feature an integrated laptop pocket, feet, credit card slots and pen loops. Whether a nylon travel bag or a leather model, an adjustable shoulder strap is recommended. Models with an extra long strap can even be worn cross body. The shoulder strap is especially useful in rough terrain. The pleasant extras include a removable pochette for care products etc. A leather travel bag often has a separate shoe compartment under the bag bottom.

    Travel bags for long journeys

    Travel bags with wheels and telescopic handle are very comfortable on long trips and flights. On stairs the telescopic handle can be folded down, and you can carry the bag on the top handle. Many models have an additional carrying strap on the side or on the front. Theft-proof travel bags are equipped with a combination lock or have a lockable two-way zip. For trips in the USA, it is worth buying models with an integrated TSA lock: this can be unlocked by a master key during official inspections. Most travel bags have two wheels and feet for more stability, so that they do not tip over when parked. Typical features include compression straps, practical ¾ opening, elastic cross-straps and several internal compartments. Because the travel bag has no fixed frame despite the wheels, it weighs less than a trolley of equal size. Some models are reinforced at the corners and at the telescopic handle. They are a little heavier, but much more robust. Some travel bags with wheels have a flap with a hook and loop or zip fastener for the retractable telescopic handle. Multifunctional travel bags have in addition to wheels and pull-out handle also retractable shoulder straps and thus allow several carrying options. Sporty models have backpack straps that are held together at the front by the hook-and-loop fastener with padding.
